About Me

Hello, I’m Liz, an experienced midwife supporting women through pregnancy, birth and early motherhood.

For more than 30 years, I have supported women and families through pregnancy, labour and postnatal recovery, working in hospitals, community settings and midwifery education.

Today I combine this experience with practical, evidence-based guidance to help women:

  • feel more confident about labour and birth

  • prepare their body and mind for birth

  • understand their options

  • care for their baby after birth

Because pregnancy isn’t just a medical journey — it’s a life transition.

Mid-wife (mid-wif): Taken from middle English “mid”+”wif” meaning “with woman”; one who assists other woman in childbirth

How my journey began

From around age eight I knew I wanted to work in healthcare. After discovering a photograph of a relative who was a nurse, I was inspired by the professionalism and compassion the role represented.

During my nursing training I chose a placement in maternity care — and instantly knew midwifery was where I belonged.

I applied for midwifery training before completing my nursing course, and that decision shaped the rest of my career.

My Experience

Over the past 30+ years I have worked in:

  • Hospital maternity units

  • Community midwifery teams

  • Home birth services

  • Stand-Alone Rural Birth Centres

  • Instructing Aquanatal Sessions

  • Midwifery education and training

  • Research into women’s wellbeing in pregnancy

This experience has given me a deep understanding of both the clinical and emotional journey of pregnancy and birth.

Understanding women's experiences

In 2018 I completed a research project exploring women’s wellbeing and peer support during Aquanatal classes.

Listening to women’s stories gave valuable insight into:

  • the emotional changes of pregnancy

  • the importance of supportive communities

  • how movement and relaxation can improve wellbeing

This research reinforced something I had seen throughout my career — women thrive when they feel informed, supported and connected.

Supporting women today

Today I focus on helping women and families prepare for birth with confidence and knowledge.

Many women feel overwhelmed by conflicting information about pregnancy and birth. My aim is to provide clear, evidence-based guidance so you can:

  • understand what is happening in your body

  • prepare physically and emotionally for labour

  • make informed choices about your care

  • feel more confident as you become a parent

Every pregnancy journey is unique, and my role is to support you in finding what works best for you and your family.
